Comments about Extech Instruments Extech Wood Moisture Meter:
Most wood suppliers think that their wood is seasoned enough to burn. Well, this ends all arguments. It's recommended that wood should be below 20% moisture content to burn efficiently and generate more heat.
With this unit, I've found that to be true. Now I know why some of my wood wasn't creating enough heat.
Warn your wood supplier before pulling the tester out of your pocket. They seem to react as if it may be a tazer.

Comments about Extech Instruments Extech Wood Moisture Meter:
Bought this meter to try and get a grip on whether any of my firewood was dry enough to burn or not. We had a creosote issue in the chimney and had a chimney sweep come take a look. He then pulled out a $20 moisture meter and declared that all of my over 2 year seasoned, under roof wood was too wet to burn. I did alot of research on meters and even though this one wasn't really designed to test firewood, it has to be better than the one the sweep had. The temperature probe and species choices were very helpful in trying to be as accurate as possible. I'm pleased to say that at least 1/2 of my wood is in the acceptable range(and shocked that the rest wasn't). A real learning experience!
