This Extech wood moisture meter gives you a dual-measurement scale and an LCD with bar graph. Check wood moisture from 6–44% and wall board, sheetrock, cardboard, plaster, concrete and mortar from 0.2–2.0%. Powered by three CR-2032 button batteries (included) with integrated electrode pins, it’s completely portable. Built-in battery check and functionality test. Auto power off after 15 minutes. Includes protective cap.

Perhaps I got a bad unit...I used it perhaps 6-8 times and it worked as intended. Went to use it today, no moisture reading in obvious water damage. Changed batteries, no calibration or battery functions QED: dead. On to something better

The unit is accurate however it will often not come on and you have to tap the unit against the palm of your hand to get it to come on. It may be that the battery compartment is a poor design and the batteries are dislodging slightly. I was very disappointed with the unit. Especially since I spent so much on it. I will purchase another brand when the time comes to order a second meter.

I use the meter to judge the wood that I burn. I split a log then take the reading from the center. Works well but I don't have anything to compare it with to judge the accuracy. I know that it's in the ballpark though because of the way my wood splits compared to the reading. If nothing else, I feel comfortable with the readings and what I know is good to burn.

This is a exccellent tool used to determine the moisture content of wood when painting or finishing exterior wood surfaces. Most finishes should not be applied when moisture content of wood surface is 15% or higher. This tool allows you to measure the mositure content in a very easy way.
