Comments about Woodstream Corp Havahart® Trap, Double Door - 17.5 x 5.25 x 7.25:
I use the trap to catch chipmunks that dig holes in my yard and eat all the bird feeder seed that falls on my deck that ground feeding birds are deprived of. I had a previous Havahart trap for over ten years, catching sometimes 50 to 60 chipmunks a year and transporting them over 2 miles away. Even after ten years of use the trap never rusted after being rinsed out and was very reliable. I had to get a new one when my local supermarket lost mine after they caught six. The only problems I had were my fault. If I was rough with it the bars that hold the doors in place when the trap is sprung might get bent and bind and not let the door fully close. Also, if I was hard on the trap, sometimes one of the springs that slam the trap doors shut would come off the side of the door and I would have to put it back in place. I like the trap's open bottom design because I can just spread some bird seed on the deck and place the trap over it with the trip plate in the middle. The chipmunks usually get greedy and step on the trip plate to get the seed on the other side and spring the trap shut. Some do not even realize they are caught until they want to get out. I then lift up the trap and cover the seed with a board until I return, thus saving bird seed for the next chipmunk trapping. The trap has never hurt a trapped chipmunk. I have on rare occasions also caught squirrels, morning doves, titmice, and opossum. The only thing I hurt was their dignity.
