Features & Applications:/
The Amprobe ECB50A is a microporocessor-driven tracer that allows three types of troubleshooting – circuit breaker identification, wire tracing in walls, and wire sorting.
The transmitter module generates a coded signal that is injected into a powered AC line. The receiver wand uses this encoded signal to reject noise and correctly identify the right circuit breaker wire.
The ECB50A is rated CAT III 150V and has a standard NEMA 5-15 plug that is common to the United States and Canada.
Features:
Three testers in one:
- Identify circuit breaker to electrical socket
- Trace AC cables in walls
- Sort AC wires in a bundle
- Microprocessor controlled
- Coded transmission
- Audible and visual indicators
- Includes sensitivity adjustment
- UL and cUL listed
- CAT III 150 V rated - ECB50
- CAT III 300 V rated – ECB50-E, ECB50-FGIS
- Cable tracing length to 150 meters (500 ft) nominal
- Cable tracing depth to 40 cm (15 inches) nominal

Comments about Amprobe Circuit Breaker Finder:
The ECB50A Finder/Cable Locator has a transmitter and a receiver and there are none that are better for the money. The transmitter is plugged into the live circuit being tested and sends a signal through the cable back to the panel. The probe can be finely tuned in two ranges. One range for general scanning and the other for locating the circuit within the breaker panel. As with all circuit tracers if you want to avoid turning off breakers you may need to remove the breaker panel cover. Just be careful and do not leave the cover off when the panel is unattended. Some walls have wire mesh in the plaster or may have other metal shielding the wires. No tracer probe can work as well with a metal barrier shielding the electro magnetic signal. In any such case a circuit tracer will perform better around junction and device box openings and at the breaker panel where the metal is not present between the conductor and the probe.

Comments about Amprobe Circuit Breaker Finder:
Does not have an indicator light on transmitter. Receiver is not sensitive enough. Takes too long to determine which breaker.

Comments about Amprobe Circuit Breaker Finder:
This unit will not detect a live line even on the most sensitive setting unless it is virtually on top of it. It is useless for tracing behind dry wall or anything else.
On the breaker setting, it will go off within several feet of a line until you turn down the sensitivity. Once you get to the breaker box, it will only narrow it down to 2 neighboring breakers. You will still have to shut each one off and test directly.
Pros
- Easy to Use
Cons
- Could be more flexible

Comments about Amprobe Circuit Breaker Finder:
This tool is great for tracing circuits back to the breaker as well as locating hidden wiring during electrical circuit modifications. I strongly recommend this tool as an alternative to one of the more expensive circuit tracing tools. The only con....it is designed to be used only on 115VAC circuits. You would have to purchase a separate unit to test 220VAC. To add flexibility, they could add a pigtail to connect directly to single wires.
