This Receptacle Tension Tester provides a simple way to check the spring contact tension of a standard straight blade receptacle.
It is designed to test outlets with the following ratings:
15A, 125V, 2 pole, 2 wire; 15A, 125V, 2 pole, 3 wire;
20A, 125V, 2 pole, 3 wire.
Completely insulated in an impact-resistant plastic housing, this tester is safe to use on energized receptacles. Each blade has an
independent spring to relieve stress and assure
consistent readings over a long life. When tension
falls below 10 ounces, that tells you to monitor the
receptacle closely for further deterioration. Tension
of 4 ounces is the lowest point that a receptacle
should be allowed to remain in service. NFPA
Standard 99-1996, Ref. 3-3.3.3(d).
