These traps work wonderfully when you use sardines under the trap and poor juice on the sardines. They are well built and easy to work with.

Comments about Safeguard Products Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, Slide Release Door 36 X 11 X 12:
I am extremely pleased with this product - it is very humane which is of upmost importance to me. I like the portability and the quality is so much better than some I have purchased here locally at a building supply company - I especially love the rear sliding door which makes it easy to release critters that I didn't mean to catch - such as possums, etc. My primary use has been to retrieve a couple of my housecats that escaped and it works beautifully - [...] I give it FIVE STARS***** I actually went back for another -

Comments about Safeguard Products Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, Slide Release Door 36 X 11 X 12:
This trap worked on the first, second AND third day after we received it. We had a critter under the house that kept us awake at night. Thinking there might be another one, we re-set the trap. We caught three huge possums in all. The trap is easy to set up, works like a charm. We used peanuts in the shell for bait. The possums did not get hurt and were perfectly fine until we dropped each one off in an abandoned field away from homes. Might be able to catch raccoons next. Many pros, no cons. [...] I wholeheartedly recommend both Professional Equipment AND the Humane Animal Trap.

Comments about Safeguard Products Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, Slide Release Door 36 X 11 X 12:
I used my trap to trap feral cats to take them to an animal shelter for spaying/neutering. With the extra door in the other end, you can easily put food and/or water into the trap without the danger of a trapped animal escaping. This is the trap the animal shelter rents out to trap feral animals. It also makes releasing an excited animal a breeze.

Comments about Safeguard Products Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, Slide Release Door 36 X 11 X 12:
I bought the Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, 36 X 11 X 12 with slide release door and its proven to be one of my best investments. Though it's a model for moderately large animals, I've captured very young and very small squirrels in it and adult cats and foxes. The trick to catching small light animals is to add weight to the release pad. I did this by placing 'heavy' magnets on the pad. These add just enough weight to spring the trap when the sqiurrel steps on it but not so heavy that it springs the trap by themselves. Another plus with magnets is that they don't fall off and get lost when the animal thrashes in the cage. CONS: 1. When used with magnets on a windy day, the trap may be sprung by a good gust because of the light touch needed to spring it. 2. Desperate animals can cut their noses when trying to fit under the drop gate.
I've read the other reviews of this product, and I commend those that use the item to practice TNR of feral cats and dogs, but I haven't read much in these reviews about safe handling, tranfer and transport. I work in the public health field, and part of this work involves monitoring and reducing animal borne diseases. Among the worst of these diseases is Rabies. Rabies is is a problem in my area, and among the most common carriers of this disease are feral cats and dogs. Skunks, Racoons, Foxes and other wild animals are commonly (or should be) suspect when trapped, and therefore handled with some care. But cats and dogs may not sound alarms with some.
When ever I catch any animal I wear heavy rubber gloves and wear a full face shield. Rabies is transmitted through saliva, and a snarling, hissing, barking animal is spraying, in an aerosol fashion, saliva. People sometimes put their faces up close to a trapped animal trying to calm it down while it is agitated and can recieve a faceful of this spray and maybe only feel it as a warm breath. 'Professional' animal handlers wear full face shield protection and heavy gloves when handling suspect animals. If it's good enough for them... . My hobby is woodworking and the full face shield I use for that work does double duty when I handle trapped animals. Afterwards, I use a spray bottle filled with bleach and water to wash my trap and shield after release. I do this when I intend to immediately reset the trap after release. This is in case the previous animal was rabid but not showing symptoms, I don't want to put the next animal at risk. The solution measure I use is one ounce per quart. This ounce may be more that others might recommend but I feel comfortable and confident with the result.
If anyone is interested, I found a low cost face shield here at the Professional Equipment site. It is close to what I use. The item is: Crews Headgear, Ratchet Take-Up, Item #: S609-1030 for $6.90.

Comments about Safeguard Products Safeguard Humane Animal Box Trap, Slide Release Door 36 X 11 X 12:
I use this trap to catch the stray cats in the yard. So far I caught 5, 3 of them without any bait. I guess cats really are curious.
