I've used this trap for Asian collared doves, a non-native invader which have taken over my neighborhood. At first, it was VERY effective but I think the birds learn because toward the end of my first year of dove trapping, at least half the doves were managing to escape by repeatedly pecking at the doors until one would spring open enough to allow a head through. I'm about to trying trapping the new generation of the doves now---hopefully they'll be young and stupid (and tender---doves are delicious).
The doves reproduce very successfully. I reduced their numbers by 40 the first year but they are now back in force. sk

The trap is excellent in all aspects except the birds back out of the trap door about 1/2 way in. Don't understand why.

Just no birds to date, I have a horse barn over run with starlings and sparrows, and to date using this trap 0 birds caught!!! I still have a barn covered with bird droppings.

I used whole corn to bait the trap and trapped 36 pigeons in a two week period. The caged seemed full
when I had 10 pigeons and a water tray. I would think 14 to 16 pigeon would be the max number for this trap.
