My house has a well, so I have a pump and pressure tank. Since it is freezing up here in Montana, I recently used it inside and screwed it onto a washer cold-water hose-bib. Within 1 day I had the maximum pressure reading, and peace of mind.
My 87 y.o. father has city water in L.A. and a water line broke under his house. His pressure regulator malfunctioned. For a few years his toilet made a lot of noise refilling and he never knew the pressure was the problem. If he had not heard the water spraying under his house he would have had a huge water bill, and potential foundation and mold damage. Since the repair of the pipe, and the pressure regulator was replaced, his toilet has been quiet.
This device is easy to hook up anytime to check the maximum pressure.

The guage seems to be off by quite a bit compared to the plumbers guage. Having experienced water pressure issues before, I'm comfotable saying that the plumbers guage was more accurate.
