This is a small, battery powered unit with no provision for a remote sensor. Quite sensitive to water on the floor and it can be laid flat or on its side; or permanently mounted with screws. Velcro might be better. Construction is adequate. The batteries are said to last a long time. It's a useful item for the low price.

Had it all up and running an sure enough, two days later we heard a squeaking in the basement. The sump pump fuse had blown and that is exactly why I bought this product.
