Bought for several projects including a new addition. Liked the added feature of sensing live AC current.
I have not found this to be effective on any wall surface. My electrician agrees. I tried to locate a channel in a wall panel with an energized AC cord wrapped around a metal rod. It inconsistently showed anywhere from 1" to 8" off. And reversing direction to get the other side of the "stud" confirmed the incorrect readings.
Some projects you can live with missing the stud the first time since you'll cover the hole (cabinets, etc.). But even for these projects I found it takes more time to use the finder than to figure our where things are.

the unit will not find the same stud twice. it starts blinking in error 9 out of ten times. I spent considerable time with it to test it's function and sad to say i wasted [$]. There was an article in popular mechanics where it was highly recommended. I thought maybe i could trust PMs opinion but, i guess not. Garbage!
